Why “digital species”?
KoXist uses the term to widen the frame. Tools are evaluated by what they do for us. A species-level relationship asks how distinct forms of intelligence influence one another, share environments, and shape a common future.
It is a working term, not a settled scientific or moral claim. Today’s systems do not need to be declared alive or granted personhood for us to recognize that increasingly adaptive and autonomous intelligence will alter human institutions and everyday life.
The language invites us to prepare for a relationship—not merely a product cycle.
Why now?
The habits and norms of coexistence are already forming: in workplaces, classrooms, homes, creative practice, and public life. If ordinary people enter this change only as consumers, its direction will be decided without them.
KoXist exists to make participation possible. We help people understand the shift, build practical capacity, protect their agency, and contribute to a future they would choose to inhabit.
